Three Timehri, East Bank Demerara children who had been reported missing by their grandmother have been returned to their family.
Lorena, Leona and Leanna Higgins were reported missing with their mother Patricia Gocool of Hyde Park Timehri.
Gocool’s mother Lynette Thomas told Stabroek News on Saturday that the children were taken to the Timehri Police Station on Friday evening by a woman whom their mother had left them with.
The woman from Unity on the East Coast had seen the news reports and contacted the family.
Gocool had asked the friend to keep her three older children for two weeks while she travelled to Suriname with their younger sister and her present companion.
However, when she arrived in Suriname she called and told the friend that she would have to keep them for a month.
The girls are presently in the custody of their paternal grandmother Sedartie Higgins.
The families plan to share custody between the two grandparents until a more permanent solution can be reached.
Thomas had reported the children missing after Gocool left the area suddenly and could not be contacted.
