Patanjalee ‘Pur’ Persaud on Saturday defeated a strong field to win the Silvie’s General Store sponsored 18-hole Medal Play tournament played at the Lusignan Golf Club (LCG).
Persaud ended an exciting day’s play in first position with a net 67 from a 20 handicap.
Second was Ansa Mcal Marketing Executive Troy Cadogan with a net 69 from a 24 handicap while Patrick Prashad, who also ended with a net 69 but with a handicap of nine, was third.
There was no fourth place award although young Lachman Ramroop played excellently to end with a net 69 as well.
The three net 69’s were given preference depending on the golfers’ performance in the last nine holes (or back nine). Best Gross (in this case 78) was also won by Prashad and Nearest to The Pin by Roy Cummings.
LGC President, Oncar ‘Shyam’ Ramroop, representing Silvie’s CEO, Bramanand Persaud, indicated that Silvie’s has pledged to continue supporting Golf in Guyana.
In addition, Silvie’s will annually sponsor a golf tournament.
Ramroop thanked Silvie’s for the good gesture and also commended Kishan Bacchus for initiating the sponsorship
Club Captain Chatterpaul ‘Chen’ Deo expressed his satisfaction with the competitive play and great camaraderie among the golfers.
“The scores indicate that the approximately three-month lay-off due to the weather and the grounds condition has not slowed down members’ passion for the game and for good play. Fairways, greens, and tee-boxes were all in very good condition favoring the high standard of golfing produced today,” he declared.
