Georgetown unit Eagles United were crowned the Foxy Ladies organized 3rd annual Football Championship titlist, downing Linden unit Demerara Queens 2-0 in the finale on Sunday at the Tucville Community ground.
Following a scoreless opening half, Terryka Joseph broke the deadlock compliments of a 53rd minute conversion. Eagles then sealed the championship in the 69th minute as Lakeisha Pearson found the back of the net.
In the third place playoff, tourney hosts Foxy Ladies dismissed Lady Diva Flames by a 4-1 score line. Tiandi Smith opened the scoring for the hosts with a seventh minute strike before Saiacy Adams doubled their lead one minute later.
Lady Divans then pulled one back in the form of Abioce Heywood who found the back of the net in the 13th minute. Nevertheless, Foxy Ladies restored their two goal advantage two minutes later as Uan Wilson scored.
The win was then completed in the 59th minute as Shemika Marcus etched her name on the scorer’s sheet.
The event which featured eight teams from various parts of the country, was played in an initial group stage format. Following the conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams from each group progressed to the knockout round.
Group A comprised of Little Diva Flames FC, Foxy Ladies, New Amsterdam (NA) Warriors FC (East Berbice) and the Guyana Defence Force (Georgetown).
On the other hand, group-B consisted of Eagles United FC, West Side Conquerors (West Berbice), Demerara Queens and Kuru-Kuru FC (East Bank of Demerara).
