The Kaieteur National Park (KNP) has been reopened after the body of the dead tourist was retrieved and transported to Georgetown.
According to a press release by the Ministry of the Presidency, the body of the woman, who had gone missing, was retrieved and transported by plane to Georgetown yesterday and is scheduled for a post- mortem examination sometime during the week.
The body of Gynaeshwaire Laleta Sivanand was spotted by a KNP ranger late Sunday afternoon, about two weeks after she had gone missing while on a tour that was organized by Air Services Limited.
A search had been immediately organized by the local park rangers but was ceased after the darkness had hindered it. The Department of Natural Resources had taken over the matter and had sent forces from the Guyana Defence Force, Guyana Police Force, and Civil Defence Commis-sion to expand the search. Days of searching the National Park and the gorge below had proved fruitless and that search had been called off.
