Widow, alleged hitman for joint charge in Herstelling carpenter murder

The alleged hitman in the murder of Herstelling carpenter Nathan Persaud is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, when he is expected to be charged jointly with the man’s widow wife, according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum.

On Monday, Persaud’s wife, Beverley, was charged with his murder and remanded to prison.

At that point, police were still searching for the hit-man the woman had reportedly confessed to hiring and promising a sum of money.

He was subsequently caught on Tuesday. He had been expected to be arraigned yesterday.

A police source told Stabroek News that detectives are also checking to see if the alleged hitman was implicated in other crimes, including second murder.

Persaud’s lifeless body was discovered lying in a pool of blood at his home last week Thursday. A neighbour, who had heard screams, only investigated after he saw a strange man leave Persaud’s home. He and others then found Persaud’s bloodied body.

Police found a brick and a hammer, believed to be the murder weapons, at the scene.
