Dear Editor,
The London High Commission should be the plum posting in the Foreign Service of Guyana. It is the gateway to markets in the UK and EC and the centre of world finance, and opportunities for investment for Guyana abound there.
That High Commission reached an absolute nadir under the previous (too) long-serving High Commissioner. There was little inward or outward investment, or effort to cater for a diaspora that is quite literally dying.
I was delighted and excited when rumours reached my ears that Hamley Case was to be appointed the new Guyana High Commissioner in London. Urbane, sophisticated, intelligent and with commercial savvy. Makes good cucumber sandwiches too! Just what is needed to get Guyana/London going again.
Hamley has confirmed to me that it is still “just a rumour.”
Well it is time for Carl Greenidge to turn that rumour into a better reality for us all in the UK and Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
John Mair
