Chief Executive Officer of Professional Guard Service (PGS) Dougal Kirkpatrick died yesterday morning at the St Joseph Mercy Hospital less than a day after he was admitted based on the advice of his doctor.
This is the second blow to the Kirkpatrick family this year as in March, Kirkpatrick’s wife Margery died at the Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI) at the age of 76.
Sean Kirkpatrick related to Stabroek News last evening that on Friday afternoon his father went for a routine checkup at the hospital. While examining him, his doctor indicated that he did not look well and advised that he be hospitalized.
He took that advice but passed away around 6.30 am yesterday. He was 75 years old.
Describing him as a “helpful and kind” person who would always give advice when needed, Sean said his father was the founding member of Guyana Association of Private Security Organ-izations (GAPSO) and GEB Security Service in addition to being the head of PGS and the owner of Kirkpatrick’s Catering Service.
Sean told this newspaper that his father was a strong advocate for people living with HIV/AIDS and often worked alongside Artistes in Direct Support. “He believed strongly that people with HIV should be respected and cared for,” he said.
Kirkpatrick, he added was very charitable and loved his family.
No date has yet been fixed for the funeral.
Kirkpatrick leaves to mourn three children and two grandchildren.
