Digicel on Friday announced the official signing of Guyanese and West Indies cricket players Devendra Bishoo and Christopher Barnwell as the company’s new ambassadors.
Bishoo, the West Indies Test leg-spinner, who departs the Caribbean for Sri Lanka in a few weeks and the hard-hitting Barnwell, who played a few T20’s for the West Indies, both of whom are part of the Guyana Jags team and the Hero CPL Guyana Amazon Warriors side, were inducted into the Digicel family as part of their drive to allow the players to promote campaigns of their choice.
According to Digicel’s marketing representative Ramesh Rupchand, the players were selected based on their performances as well as the professionalism they have depicted over the years. The duo will have the opportunity to select an endeavor of their choice which will be fully supported by the company. Bishoo was an initial member of the initiative previously.
With the signing of the contracts, the players will now be the face of the company and will now play integral parts of Digicel’s marketing and promotion plans in the months to come. Rupchand also confirmed that the players will have the option of renewing their contracts upon expiry.
The company’s executives said that the move is likely to continue with more players being signed as ambassadors. At the culmination of the signing of contracts, both players thanked Digicel for the opportunity while admitting that they will upkeep the image of themselves and company over the period.
Guyana Inc. (CGI)/Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Secretary, Anand Sanasie lauded both players for carrying themselves in a professional manner worthy of being branded by a major entity. Sanasie also urged other young players to follow in the steps of Barnwell and Bishoo so they might one day become ambassadors for themselves and their country.
