The Guyana Physical Therapy Association (GPTA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and the Department of Sport Region #6 on Friday held a Sports Medicine Seminar at the Regional Democratic Office, New Amsterdam.
Over 20 coaches from across Region 6 and from various sporting disciplines participated.
Ariane Mangar, president of the Guyana Physical Therapy Association, in brief remarks said that physical therapists have a key role in helping people with long-term conditions achieve their goals, fulfil their potential and participate fully in society and sports.
The first sports medicine seminar was held in Georgetown last year and with the aim of ensuring that the message is decentralised, the association journeyed to Berbice.
Regional Chairman, David Armogan, who delivered the opening remarks, highlighted the importance of physical therapists and the knowledge of sports medicine for coaches.
According to Armogan, the world is evolving and sport is becoming more commercialized where successful sports men and women are now paid more for plying their trade.
The presenters at the sports medicine seminar were Akil Raghunandan PT, Beverly Nelson Sports PT, Melissa Corlette PT, Jason Johnny PT, Ariane Mangar PT and Abigail Caled, Nutritionist.
