Oswald Junior Yaw, who is accused of killing block maker Nathan Persaud after reportedly being hired by the man’s wife, was yesterday charged with murder and remanded to prison.
Yaw was not required to plead to the capital charge after it was read by Magistrate Ann McLennan in a city court.
It is alleged that on September 10, Yaw, 21, of East Ruimveldt Back Circle, murdered Nathan Persaud at his Herstelling home.
Yaw, who said he worked in security and construction, was implicated in the crime by Beverley Persaud, the wife of the deceased, who is alleged to have admitted to offering him payment to murder her estranged husband, with whom she was involved in a property dispute.
Yaw was remanded to prison, where he will remain until his next court date on October 13.
Persaud’s lifeless body was found by neighbours lying in the entryway to his home. A brick and a hammer, alleged to be the murder weapons, were also reportedly found nearby.
A neighbour, who testified to hearing screams coming from the house during what he later found out was an act of murder, related that he had later seen a man leaving Persaud’s premises following the commotion.
Beverley allegedly admitted to her and Yaw’s involvement in her husband’s murder hours after being taken into custody by the police.
She was formally charged with the crime last Monday in a city court.
