The Guyana Police Force is investigating a suspected internal breach in the housing department of the Ministry of Communities.
Junior Minister Keith Scott, who has responsibility for housing, told Stabroek News that the police have been called in and are investigating and he would await the result.
A senior police official, when contacted yesterday, said the police are investigating a “break-in” at the ministry. However, he was unable to provide details about what exactly may be missing.
However, a staff member said a key was found stuck in the door leading to an area where files are kept. It is not yet clear if any files or any other documents are missing from the office but from all indications it was an “inside job,” since there was no evidence of a break and enter.
The staff member noted that when workers turned up yesterday morning, they observed what appeared to be shoe prints in the washroom and kitchenette areas of the minister’s office. It also appeared as if someone also used a faulty water dispenser on the premises, resulting in a leak that soaked the carpet.
When Stabroek News visited the office, police officers were present conducting an investigation.
