Over four months after Quincy Greene died in a road incident, no one has been charged and his mother is calling for justice to be served, even as an inquest has been ordered.
Greene, 26, of Lot 36 Side Line Dam, Mocha, East Bank Demerara, succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) on May 3 of this year after he was hit by a car.
Stabroek News had reported that Greene and a friend were riding motorcycles and while he was crossing the road between the National Stadium and the Princess Hotel, a car struck Greene off his motorcycle. He was pitched some distance away. He was picked up and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre by public-spirited citizens. After his condition worsened, he was transferred to the GPH where he succumbed.
While his family believed that he died on that day, hospital officials only pronounced him dead the following day (May 4) after conducting tests. Relatives had also alleged that Greene was neglected when he was transferred to the hospital from the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
His mother June Greene told Stabroek News that the last update she received from the police was during last month when she was told that the case file was sent to the DPP chambers for legal advice. The woman added that she later learnt that the file was sent back to the Providence Police Station and that the DPP had ordered an inquest. Stabroek News confirmed that an inquest was indeed ordered.
“It hard to know that my son died from a tragic accident so suddenly and no one seem to care,” June said. She added that since her son’s demise she received no satisfaction but was rather being “pushed around.”
The woman is also considering seeking legal advice in her quest to get justice.
