Robb Street business will miss a friendly face after John Anderson, who dwelled in and traversed the street for over three decades, died yesterday.
Anderson, 83, who was known as ‘Neighbour John’, was the caretaker of the West Indies Sports Complex on Robb Street, but he was no stranger to anyone who traversed the area. The man was well known by all for his friendly and welcoming attitude.
Anderson was found yesterday at the West Indian Sports Complex collapsed on the ground by a workmate. While Anderson was known to be strong physically, one of his workmates said he had complained about not being able to walk yesterday and had requested a walking stick. He said that was unusual, since he could usually be seen prancing up and down on a daily basis.
He said that about 4 pm, a neighbour called out to him and pointed out that Anderson was lying in the yard and he explained that when he got there the man was in an awkward position as if he had fallen. Paramedics were subsequently called where the man was pronounced dead.
