The process to affix Cooperative Republic of Guyana (CRG) number plates to all state owned vehicles could begin within the next month, Minister of State Joseph Harmon announced last Friday even as he urged all who are currently in possession of state vehicles to hand them in. “The revenue authority has already given me the assurance that they have the means… to roll out that programme. So within another month or so we expect that will start to happen,” he told reporters during his weekly post cabinet press briefing.
He said that as had been previously indicated all vehicles owned by the state will be assigned a CRG number. “So if you have one that you know belongs to the state and you know that you got it home, bring it,” he said.
The initiative was first announced by Harmon back in July. He had explained that there is a plan to have all state-owned vehicles carry government number plates. He said too that all of the licence-plate numbers of vehicles that were registered to the state will be given to the police and lawful action will be taken against the persons who have sought to keep them.
