An autopsy has revealed that Ganesh Permaul, the mechanic who was found dead at the entrance to a friend’s home at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne last Thursday, died as a result of asphyxiation.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, who confirmed the cause of death, said the suspect in the man’s death is to be charged in court today.
Blanhum said following the discovery of the man’s body, investigators learnt that he was last seen drinking in the company of a man around noon. The man was arrested and, following the post-mortem examination yesterday, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advised that he be charged.
Permaul, 29, of Lot 32 Grant 1803 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, was found dead by his friend, who said he discovered the body after returning home. The man was subsequently arrested.
A police source said the man told investigators that he went out on Thursday to conduct business. He recalled leaving Permaul on the veranda and he claimed that the man appeared to be okay. On his return, he said he found him on his bridge and he suspected him to be dead. As a result, he immediately summoned the police from the Springlands Police Station.
However, Permaul’s family was told that he was beaten to death.
