Half centuries from former national youth batsmen Anthony D’Andrade and Joemal LaFleur led Tucber Park (formerly Bermine) to a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMCC) in their second round match of the Bobby Deonarine/Tom Gruntzel/Tenelec Incorporated limited overs competition in Berbice.
At Port Mourant, the home team won the toss, batted first and made 189 all out with Lloydel Lewis top scoring with 45.
PMCC skipper Arif Chan chipped in with 32, Ameer Khan 26 and Berbice junior pacer Dimitri Cameron 21.
Bowling for Tucber Park, Joemal LaFleur took 3-37 and Kevin Pellew 2 for 43. In reply, the visitors reached 189 for 2 in 37.3 overs. D’Andrade struck a firm 73 while the talented all-rounder LaFleur scored 63 and Devon Clements an unbeaten 24.
At Cumberland, East Canje, Kwesi Mickle churned out a fine all-round performance to help Police demolish Bush Lot Rising Star by 159 runs.
Police won the toss, batted and rattled up 269 all out in 42 of the allotted 45 overs.
Mickle, 58, Brentnol Woolford 42, Albert Sinclair 35, Norwayne Fredericks 28 and Curt Griffith 27, were the principal scorers.
Bowling for Bush Lot Rising Stars, Troy McKenzie took 3 for 51, national U-15 off spinner Nivindra Prashad, 3 for 41 and Javed Saywack 2 for 32.
In reply, Bush Lot Rising Stars were shot out for 110. Javed Saywack with 42 and Eric Fordyce 22 provided the only resistance. Bowling for Police, Mickle returned to take two wickets. National U17 all-rounder Kevin Sinclair took two wickets.
At Edinburgh, Young Warriors won the toss and made a challenging 205 all out in 44.4 of their allotted 50 overs.
Former Berbice youth batsman Sasenarine Sukhdeo returned to form with a commanding 57 while former Berbice senior opener Maxie DeJonge, 31, Waheid Edwards 29 and national U-19 all-rounder Kassim Khan 28 were the main contributors.
Bowling for the host, Shafiq Khan took 3 for 32 and David Denny 2 for 29.
In reply, Edinburgh crumbled to 88 all out in 27.2 overs. Pacer Suresh Dhanai led the rout with 4 for 23. Roydel Phil supported with 3 for 18 and former national youth player Kevin Ramdeen 2 for 1.
Over at Blairmont, the hosts won the toss and inserted West Berbice who struggled to 151 all out in 34.5 of their allotted 50 overs. National pacer Keon Joseph top scored with 32 and was support by another fast bowler, Keyron Fraser with 23 not out.
Shabeer Baksh bagged 5 for 43 while Derek Cadogan and Waqar Hassan took two wickets each.
In reply, the pace of Joseph was too hot to handle and Blairmont were bundled out for an embarrassing 59 off 14 overs. Joseph was almost unplayable and ended with 5 for 11 off three overs while Berbice senior off spinner Krisendat Ramoo took 3 for 7 off four overs.
At Skeldon, the home team won the toss and batted. They made a respectable 161 all out in 43 of their allotted 47 overs due to a late start. Veteran Sherwin Murray made an attacking 68 and was supported by Trishan Ramdass with 24. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, skipper Lakeram Latchman took 3 for 36, Devanand Chatterpaul 2 for 24 and Totaram Persaud 2 for 33.
The visitors raced to victory making 162 for 5 in 35 overs. The skipper returned with the bat to score a responsible 49. Balram Samaroo supported with 28 and former Berbice youth batsman Viendra Gooniah made 23. Totaram Rajaram Took 3 for 26.
The match between neighbours and arch rivals Albion Community Center and Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets did not come off because of the unavailability of the Albion ground due to Berbice Expo. That match will be rescheduled for a later date. The third and final round of the preliminary matches will be played on Sunday.
