A soldier has been an admitted a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) since Saturday after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car on David Street, Kitty.
Trevor Caesar sustained minor lacerations about his body but his ankle was severely damaged and he is to undergo surgery to correct this.
Caesar, 22, of Linden, recalled that he was riding along David Street around 1.30 am when he observed a car coming in the opposite direction and signalled the driver to wait as he was about to make a turn. Caesar said that he flashed his head lamp and the driver stopped but as he was about to turn the driver of the motor car accelerated, resulting in the collision.
Caesar said that the driver of the car then broke off its number plates and fled the scene on foot. The car key was secured by a passerby. The driver subsequently turned himself over to police two days after, Caesar said.
The injured man said that the police told him that they are awaiting his discharge from the hospital to take him back to the scene of the incident before charges could be made.
However, Caesar’s relatives are upset over the slothfulness in the police investigation while the driver of the car has been released.
According to Caesar, another motorcyclist who was riding behind him and observed the mishap has given a statement to the police.
