A man accused of being part of a gang of seven that robbed another man at the seawall on Monday, was granted bail when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Ezra Evans, a labourer of 67 Westford Road, Ruimveldt, pleaded not guilty to a charge of robbery with aggravation. Evans is believed to be part of a gang of seven people who robbed Eon Peters of a cellphone valued $4,500 and $900 on Monday morning.
Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves told the court that on the day in question, Peters, who was in the company of a friend, was heading home from the seawalls when he was confronted by the defendant along with six other suspects. The gang then proceeded to search Peter and relieved him of his money and cellphone.
The prosecutor related that after the robbery, the victim spotted police ranks on patrol and alerted them of the incident. He pointed out the direction to where the suspects had escaped and when the gang saw the ranks approaching, they all fled. However, the police managed to apprehend Evans.
According to the police report, Evans admitted to being present during the crime but denied taking anything from the victim.
Magistrate Alex Moore placed Evans on $30,000 bail and ordered him to return to court on October 19. .
