City residents are being asked to get involved in the National Tree Planting Day set for October 3.
According to a press release from the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) after planting trees residents are invited to attend a ‘I have planned a tree’ lime at the Seawall Bandstand
Town Clerk Royston King said all the designated areas where trees would be planted within the city will be highlighted and team leaders identified before the day.
According to the release, he explained that since the planting exercise should be a structured one, the municipality will identify team heads such as city councillors and community leaders to oversee specific locations. “We are aiming for a noticeable difference when our teams are finished,” the release quoted King as saying.
The Town Clerk encouraged participants of the tree planting activity to walk with their music boxes and other means of comfort. “We want people to feel elated about caring for the environment and most comfortable while doing it,” the release quoted him as saying.
He added that a decorated green truck will also be going around the city playing music and providing eco-friendly information, while promoting the day’s event. While this truck is also expected to have light refreshments for participants, citizens are still encouraged to have their own items to ensure their total comfort, the release said.
The lime at the Seawall Bandstand which will commence sometime around 4.30 pm, will have drinks and food on sale and local acts for entertainment.
