An infant was on Friday evening rushed to the Georgetown Public Hos-pital (GPH) after he sustained burns to the upper part of his body when he reportedly pulled a pot containing hot oil from the stove.
One year old Dellon Dowden of Kuru Kururu, Linden-Soesdyke Highway was taken to the hospital around 7.30 pm on Friday and remains a patient in a stable condition in the paediatric ward nursing burns to his entire abdomen and a section of his right arm.
When Stabroek News visited the hospital yesterday, the child was surrounded by his parents. His mother, Grace Dowden informed this newspaper that she was in the kitchen preparing dinner and had just stepped outside when the incident occurred.
The woman explained that she was frying chicken and had stepped out of the house to uplift something when she heard loud screams from her child. As such, she ran back into the kitchen where she saw Dellon lying on the ground with the hot oil spilled around him. The woman said it was fortunate that the oil had not burned his entire body. At the time of the incident, she and the child were the only persons at home.
