Speedboat operators who ply the Vreed-en-Hoop/ Stabroek route have benefited from a recently-held customer service training programme which outlined their roles in delivering quality service to customers.
The training was conducted by Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) Indranauth Haralsingh who said in a press release that the 40 persons in attendance, participated in interactive question and answer sessions for which prizes were won, including tours around the country.
According to the release, among the areas discussed were: effective communication techniques, characteristics of good service, safety and customer expectations.
The release said the director commended the boat operators for a “job well done” and emphasized the need to continue exhibiting good customer service daily. He also commended them for “having a good safety record.”
The session was held on September 20 at the West Demerara Secondary School for captains and bowmen of the Demerara River Speedboat Associa-tion (DRSA). It was facilitated under the auspices of the GTA which distributed Explore Guyana magazines to the operators.
The release said that the training is an ongoing exercise being offered by the GTA for some years now and has been recommended for boat operators of the DRSA by the Maritime Administration Depart-ment.
According to the release, the GTA will be conducting like sessions in Bartica tomorrow. Mean-while, conversational Dutch language training for Customs and Immigra-tion and other relevant officers of the Canawaima Ferry Crossing will be conducted during the first week in October.
Other training programmes slated for the remainder of the year include city tour guide training, customer service training for hotels in Georgetown and Linden, and culinary training for restaurants.
The press release said it is the mandate of the GTA to conduct training for service providers who interface daily with members of the public, to ensure they are knowledgeable of what good customer service entails, so as to aid the delivery of quality service.
