Nyron Joseph (-20) and Reagan Pollard (-14) were amongst the winners on day two of the Lucozade Handicap Squash Championship, defeating Anthony Islam and Lloyd Fung-A-Fat respectively, on Wednesday at the Georgetown Club.
Joseph defeated Islam 2-1, overcoming a first set loss by a 10/15 margin to win the second and third rounds 16/14 and 15/12 respectively. On the other hand, Pollard downed Fung-A-Fat in straight sets 15/12, 16/14.
In other results, Joe Mekdeci defeated Avinash Odit 2-0 (15/5, 15/8), while Anthony Islam edged Frank Vieira 2-1 (11/15, 15/9, 15/7). Alex Cheeks downed Denis Dias 2-0 (18/16, 15/12) and Adam Alves edged Yang Hapoei 2-0 (15/12, 15/13).
In addition, Mohryan Baksh overcame Beau Fernandes 2-1 (15/11, 12/15, 15/8), while Michael Alphonso beat Jason Gomes 2-0 (15/7, 15/8). Thi Fernandes lost to Nicholas Narain 2-0 (12/15, 12/15) and Taylor Fernandes edged Matthew Phang 2-1 (15/8, 12/15, 15/12).
In the final two results of the night, Kirsten Gomes dismissed Kamir Khan 2-0 (15/12, 15/13) and Paige Fernandes defeated Haley Carpenter 2-0 (15/13, 15/10).
On the opening night on Tuesday at the same venue, Joseph defeated Daniel Islam 15/13, 16/15 and Odit beat D. Yan 2-0 (15/11, 15/12).
In the other results, Mekdeci beat Ashley DeGroot 2-0 (15/4, 15/8) while Taylor Fernandes beat J. Ali 2-0 (15/4, 15/8). Matthew Phang beat Medhi Ramdhani 2-0 (18/16, 15/6) and Alves edged Benjamin Mekdeci 2-1 (10/15, 15/13, 15/6).
Continuing with the results, Pollard beat M. Atherly 2-1 (11/15, 15/13, 15/13) while L. Fung-a-Fat defeated Rafael DeGroot 2-1 (15/3, 0/15, 15/6). Denis Dias defeated D. Fernandes 2-1 (12/15, 15/10, 15/11) and Alex Cheeks defeated S. De Abreu 2-0 (15/8, 15/5).
In the final results of the night, P. DeGroot defeated A. King 2-0 (15/12, 16/14) and Nicholas Narain downed J. Fernandes 2-0 (15/13, 15/11). Action in the event will continue today at the same venue with the final two days of the competition being staged on Saturday and Sunday.
