Couple held over theft of $2.7M in break-in

A man and a woman were arrested over the theft of over $2 million from a house at Crane, West Coast Demerara on Friday.

The police, in a press release, said that diligent investigations after the report led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of $1.4 million at a house at Kitty, Georgetown. During the break in, the suspects carted off $2.7 million, the police said. The victim, Chandrowtie Rattan, told Stabroek News that her home was broken into but she did not want to give further details.

Meanwhile, police have also arrested another man following a report of a break and enter at the home of Ramnauth Narine of Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara.

The police said the suspect has since admitted to the offence and several others which were committed at Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara. Some of the stolen items, including several caged birds, were also recovered and have been lodged at the Wales Police Station as the investigation continues.

The suspect is reportedly known in the community and he is expected to appear in court tomorrow.
