A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) rank was shot in the leg last evening when he stumbled into a robbery at Andrews Supermarket, at Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt.
The rank, who has been identified at Fayne George, 28, of De Kendren Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara was in a stable condition at the Georgetown Hospital at press time.
The shooting and armed robbery would have occurred sometime around 9 pm.
A fully alert George was taken to the hospital in a police vehicle.
Details of the robbery were not immediately available but this newspaper was told that the supermarket is occasionally targeted by bandits.
It has been in operation for several years and in addition to providing groceries the location also houses a money transfer service.
