A speedboat operator was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of attempted murder, after he reportedly chopped off the hand of his partner due to a dispute.
It is alleged that on October 1, Abdool Samaroo, 23, of Enterprise, Leguan, wounded Tashmie Mohabir with the intent to murder her. Samaroo was not required to plead to the charge as it was made indictable.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers informed that the defendant and the victim had had a disagreement and Samaroo, in the heat of the moment, severed the hand of the victim. He also revealed that Mohabir was still in the hospital receiving medical attention. No other details concerning the day in question were given.
Samaroo was remanded to prison until October 22, where he will make an appearance at the Leguan Magistrate’s Court, as ordered by Magistrate Ann McLennan.
