First Lady Sandra Granger and Luminous Women’s Group yesterday collaborated with business mogul Stanley Ming to treat a group for retired head teachers as part of the World Teachers’ Day observance.
According to a GINA press release, 24 veteran educators and six members of the Luminous Women’s Group travelled to Ming’s Isika complex near Parika.
The release said that retired head mistress Gloria Croft, who is also a member of the Luminous Women’s Group, expressed her appreciation to the First Lady and Ming for the thoughtful gesture.
Croft urged young teachers to be more committed, adding that while the union advocates passionately for the welfare and rights of teachers, those rights come with responsibilities, which should be taken seriously, GINA stated.
“Teachers must also be more receptive to advice and training workshops that are facilitated by the Ministry of Education and the ministry must establish a more stringent system to monitor the effectiveness of those in service workshops,” it quoted her as saying.
Ingrid Fung, another veteran educator, encouraged teachers to give their best to the charges.
“Years from now when you see them again as doctors and lawyers and other successful individuals, you will realize the importance of your job,” GINA quoted Fung as saying.
The Luminous Women Group was established in March and has been collaborating closely with the First Lady.
