Dear Editor,
I refer to your story ‘NIS insurable income ceiling up by 17%’ (Stabroek News, October 3), in which you note that the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) announced an increase in the monthly insurable income ceiling via an advertisement in the Mirror newspaper.
I am not sure who made this placement decision but clearly they need to understand that the Mirror newspaper is not one that would be considered as having national circulation. It might reach the proverbial four corners of the country but if I visit any pavement vendor selling newspapers, I would likely find four newspapers, namely Stabroek News, Kaieteur News, Guyana Times and Guyana Chronicle.
In any case, a matter as significant as an increase in the NIS insurable income ceiling should get the maximum coverage possible including the online media through a press release as opposed to an advertisement.
Yours faithfully,
