Malteenoes all-rounder Kellon Carmichael is ruing Sunday’s semi-final loss to Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) in the Carib Beer T20 First Division competition, saying it was a tough pill to swallow.
Malteenoes were knocked over for a paltry 83 in 17 overs at their home club ground with skipper Steven Jacobs (22) and Nichose Barker (21) who shared a 38-run partnership, being the only highlight of the team’s innings.
Carmichael, who recently returned from England where he enjoyed another top stint told Stabroek Sports: “It was a good game but a tough loss and we didn’t do ourselves any good by being bowled out for 83 but we still played well because GCC won the match in 17 overs so we didn’t let them get away with it. “
He lauded the GCC bowlers, especially the two spinners Anthony Adams who picked up 4-3 and Raj Nannan who claimed 2-15, saying that they utilized the conditions well and didn’t not allow the home team to form partnerships.
GCC’s chase of the meagre target was inevitably achieved through the efforts of Guyana Jaguars Skipper Leon Johnson who compiled 24 runs and Barbadian Raymon Reifer who made 18 to see the Bourda Boys to 84 for 4 from 16.3 overs despite courageous efforts from National left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul who finished with figures of 1-14 and Malteenoes skipper Jacobs 1-20.
The stage is now set for a thrilling encounter between GCC and the dangerous Queenstown boys of the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) who will look to better each other in the final as soon as a date is decided.
