North West farmer Edward Simon was yesterday arraigned for the murder of Lionel Williams, the miner who was fatally stabbed at Tin Cup Backdam in a drunken quarrel earlier this year.
Simon, 45, appeared before city magistrate Ann McLennan charged with the indictable offence of murdering Williams on May 25th.
Police had said that Williams and two other men had been drinking at a shop when an argument broke out between the three, leading to Williams being stabbed to death.
The matter was transferred to the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate’s Court, where it will be heard on November 3rd.
Also appearing yesterday before the court was Perry Boodhoo, a gold miner who was charged with stealing a quantity of clothing items from the stall of Margo Gordon, at the Port Kaituma Waterfront, also in the North West District. The stolen articles were said to have amounted to $303,000.
Perry pleaded not guilty to the charge and was placed on $180,000 bail by Magistrate McLennan. He too will make his next court appearance on November 3rd at the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
