With four rounds of the Stag Beer Elite League already completed, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has officially selected the inaugural All Star XI of the month yesterday.
The selections which were done following consultations with several media operatives across the various media spectrums, were based on the players’ individual performances throughout the four rounds of the championships. This selection will be done every month.
West Demerara giants Slingerz FC leads the count with five selections in the 11 followed by Alpha United and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) with two berths. Claiming a berth each was Pele and Fruta Conquerors.
Sporting a 4-2-4 formation, Goal-keeper Winslow McDowall (Slingerz) earns the job between the uprights after having conceded only one to date while team-mates Colin Nelson and sibling Jolanshoy McDowall are his Centre half pairing.
Completing the defence at right and left fullback are Alpha United’s Sherwin Skeete and Fruta Conqueror’s renaissance man Trevon Lythcott. Both have netted one goal apiece despite their defensive duties.
In the midfield, Slingerz FC playmaker Vurlon Mills who has netted once partners Eusi Phillips of the GDF who has scored twice while the forward line is led by Player of the Month and present top scorer with four goals Gregory Richardson of Pele FC.
The veteran sharp-shooter is positioned alongside speedster Delroy Fraser of GDF, Kithson Bain of Alpha United and Dwain Jacobs of Slingerz FC. Fraser has found the back of the net thrice while Bain and Jacobs have been a constant threat despite netting only once. Coaching the side will be Pele’s Justin Bentick.
The notable eight that failed to make the starting XI were custodian Dorville Stewart (Alpha United), Defenders Quincy Madramootoo (Alpha United), Kevin Layne Jr. (Monedderlust FC), Midfielders Daniel Wilson (Alpha United), Shad Fernandes (GFC), Eon Alleyne (Fruta Conquerors) and Forwards Deon Alfred (Pele) and Kurt Johnson (GFC).
