The Police Officers of the Ancient County defeated West Berbice by 22 runs in the ongoing Berbice Cricket Board (BCB)/Tenelec 50 overs round robin first division competition.
Played at the Bush Lot Ground, West Coast Berbice, Police won the toss, took first strike and scored 174 off 38 overs. Brentnol Woolford continued his fine form with a top score of 35, getting support from Wayne Richards 29 and Kurt
Griffith 24. Berbice senior off-spinner Krishendat Ramoo bagged 6 for 32 while Guyana Jaguars pacer Keon Joseph claimed 3 for 28.
In reply, West Berbice were bowled out for 152, with Rafael Estriado chipping in with a top knock of 30. He found allies in teammates;
Andrew Dutchin (27), Carlton Nurse (24) and veteran Keith Fraser (20).
Bowling for Police, Newland returned to snatch up took 2 for 15 off 7 overs, as National U17 all-rounder Kevin Sinclair (2-21), Kurt Griffith (2-25) and Andel Doris (2-48), supported well.
On Saturday the playoffs commence with Group A winner Police hosting runner of Group C, Rose Hall Gizmos and Gadgets at Edinburgh, Group B winner Young Warriors will host Group A runner up West Berbice at Cumberland and winner of Group C Albion CC will host runner up of Group B Tucber Park at Albion.
The only semifinal will be played between winner of game one and winner of game two at winner of one venue. The winner of game three will draw the bye to the final at a date and venue to be named.
