Delon Henry, aka ‘Nasty Man’ was yesterday charged with the murder of East Ruimveldt resident, Dexter Griffith, who died after being shot three times about his body last week.
Henry was not required to plead to the charge which stated that he murdered Griffith on September 29.
According to the prosecution, Griffith was sitting on a chair in front of his house at ‘Warlock’ when Henry, who was armed with a gun, walked up to him and fired several shots. Griffith was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital but later succumbed to his wounds. The prosecution noted that the charges were levelled against the accused after he was positively identified during an ID parade.
However, an unrepresented Henry denied having undergone an ID parade, adding that he was beaten to confess to the murder.
The 25-year-old resident of Houston Scheme, on the East Bank Demerara, claimed that he was at home at the time of the incident. And apart from being charged with murder, Henry was also charged with two counts of illegal firearm possession.
According to the charges, on October 4 at Agricola, he was found with a .38 Rossi revolver and 8 live matching rounds of ammunition. Henry pleaded not guilty to both charges, claiming that he was being framed.
Nevertheless, Henry was remanded on all three charges and is expected to make his next court appearance on Friday, before Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Henry, who was recently released from prison, was reportedly a member of the former ‘Fineman’ gang. This gang was named after the notorious Rondell ‘Fineman’ Rawlins who terrorized the country for several years prior to his death in 2008.
Griffith, 36, was shot once to his left thigh, once to his face and once to his chest which exited through his back. The chest wound proved to be fatal.
