Starting this Sunday on the open roads of the city, athletes within the discipline forces will begin their quest for supremacy and the coveted Inter-Services Annual Athletics and Swimming Championship (ISAASC) trophy.
Popularly known as the Joint Services Championships, the annual event which involves the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Guyana Defence Force (GDF), the Guyana Fire Service, the Guyana Prison Service, and City Constabulary gets underway with the 10K road relay starting at 06:00hrs in front of the Police Officers Mess.
The road relay will have five legs and will comprise of teams of four males and a female. The males will run three 2Ks and a 3K while the race will conclude with the female running the last km.
With the introduction of a swimming segment to the track and field championship, swimmers from the forces will head to the National Aquatic Centre at 11:00hrs following the road relay.
Monday will be a rest day for the October 11-16championships after which competition will resume on Tuesday and Wednesday at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora. Thursday will be another rest day, while the championships concludes on Friday night.
GDF is the title holders of the ISAASC trophy and will look to retain their silverware. Arch rivals the GPF will be looking to re-arrest the award.
