A small ceremony was held on September 29, 2015 to thank the members of the United Women for Special Children (UWSC) for their generous support in aiding the finalisation of the Vocational Training Unit (VTC) at the Ptolemy Reid Centre.
A release from the USWC said that during the ceremony students ex-pressed their gratitude through song and dance and instructor of the VTC, Rajdaie Ali said that the generosity of the UWSC had created a positive impact on the lives of the students and the VCT was in debt to the organisation.
Earlier in the year, the building which houses the VTC was completed with the assistance of the Basic Needs Trust Fund, but it could not be occupied as finance for crucial interior work fell short.
Through the charitable support of the UWSC, the building was made fully functional with the installation of sinks, and plumbing fixtures, cupboards, counter tops and vertical blinds.
The Centre and the UWSC share a history over two decades, when the group was integral in the formation of a programme to manufacture and sell pay envelopes to agencies requiring them.
Vocational students taking part were given a stipend.
Over the years the USWC has continued to support the Centre in various projects, as past President Jennifer Prashad said, it was the main objective of the group to ensure that children with special needs meet their highest potential.
