Dear Editor,
It’s wholly disconcerting that the 20% promised to public servants across the board has not materialized; instead they’ve been relegated to a measly 5% which is really a slap in the face of dedicated hard-working career public servants.
The arrogance and pomposity of the Minister of State in trying to justify the 50% humongous increase for government minsters and parliamentarians reminds people of Animal Farm, where some are more worthy than others. How can this 50% increase be justified when hard-working public servants are trying to survive on the measly 5% increase? What has happened to the campaign slogan ‘a good life for all’? Has someone suddenly become afflicted with amnesia? This government touted itself as being ‘people centred’ in its manifesto, but to date it has behaved as though it has an entitlement to a 50% salary increase in less than five months on the job. How wholly disheartening. It appears that we are now caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Yours faithfully,
