A Mahdia gold miner, accused of wounding another man while drunk, was yesterday placed on $100,000 bail at a city court after denying that he committed the crime.
Esmond Montrose, 20, was charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Oswald Jordan on October 11th, at 11 Miles, Mahdia. Although there was no known relationship between the two men, it was claimed that both the defendant and the complainant were drinking before the altercation occurred.
Montrose, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, received no objections from prosecutor Deniro Jones for bail. Jones’ only request was that it be issued in a substantial amount to ensure his return for trial.
Bail was set at $100,000 by Magistrate Ann McLennan and the matter was adjourned to October 20th, when it will be heard at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
