Bolt bent on running half-lap in 19 seconds

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- Sprint super star Usain Bolt has vowed to smash his 200 metre world record by running the half lap in 19 seconds flat before signing off on a scintillating career that has transformed him into a global icon.

The 17-time Olympic and World champion and double sprint world-record holder says he is confident of lowering is world record of 19.19 over the 200 metres as he turned up for training ahead of a new track and field season.

However Bolt and other members of his Racers club mates were given the day off by Coach Glen Mills, due to the inclement weather which affected training at the club’s training base at the University of the West Indies Monday.

“The 200m world record is one of my major goals, and one of my toughest. It’s going to be hard to find the right day and the perfect race to get this, but I really want to run under 19 seconds,” Bolt said in an interview with the Jamaica Gleaner.

“I, personally, think I can do it, and so does my coach, so it’s just about putting in the work and finding the perfect time to do it,” Bolt said, noting his anticipation of an increasingly competitive season”.

Bolt returned to Jamaica after a series of promotional appearances including an appearance on the popular syndicated US TV show, The Ellen Degeneres Show.

“I’m just happy to be back, I’ve been looking forward to it. I enjoyed my vacation, but it’s really good to be back in training,” said Bolt.
