The Guyana Government is looking closely at a number of investment proposals which were received by a team of ministers who recently travelled to Canada to meet with Guyanese living there, according to Minister of Governance Raphael Trotman.
“The team reported that it was rather overwhelmed with the number of proposals …which shows the high enthusiasm of Guyanese in the diaspora because persons travelled from the United States as well to attend so there is a high expectation of involvement and there are ready to come to invest so yes proposals were received and are being examined”, he told reporters at a post-cabinet press briefing yesterday.
He had earlier informed that a ministerial delegation led by Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo travelled to Canada and whiles a final report is being compiled, cabinet was briefed about the engagements which took place.
The other member of the high-level ministerial delegation were Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan, Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin and Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson.
Trotman explained that the trip was a “follow up” visit which was suggested by President David Granger. Granger had visited in September and was overwhelmed with the willingness of Guyanese living there to return home and contribute to the development of the country, Trotman said.
He added that persons who engaged the delegation were more interested in national issues adding that there was a great interest in investment especially in infrastructural development.
Asked about the investment proposals made, Trotman said that the team received numerous proposals in infrastructural development and in the natural resources sector.
