Kevon Boodie yesterday slammed an emphatic century for the Shimron Hetmyer XI which reached 272 all out on the third day of the four-day practice match at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground.
They were replying to Leon Johnson’s XI’s first innings score of 344.
Batting a second time Johnson’s XI were 125-3 at close of play with Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Vishaul Singh not out on 14 and four respectively. Opener Assad Fudadin made 82.They have an overall lead of 197 runs.
Boodie’s top score of 130 was a mixture of maturity, raw aggression and timing. He faced 197 balls and batted for some 292 minutes, clobbering 13 crisp fours and three sixes.
Skipper Shimron Hetmyer had on the second day, laid the foundation with a stylish 53.
Yesterday, Hetmeyer’s Xi who resumed on 140-6 were indebted to a 99-run seventh wicket partnership between Boodie and Javon Searles.
Boodie who resumed on 41, rushed to his 50 upon resumption of his innings reaching his first milestone off 104 balls with five fours.
Searles added another 12 runs to his overnight total of 16 but was removed by Veerasammy Permaul to a catch by Johnson at first slip. Boodie took his score to 80 at lunch while his new partner Raj Nannan was on 4.
A few overs after the interval Nannan was caught behind by Anthony Bramble for a 37-ball seven. Boodie by then in the 90s launched Permaul for a four through mid-wicket and followed that up with a thumping six back over the left-hand spinner’s head to reach his ton of 182 balls with nine fours and a pair of sixes.
Pacer Ronsford Beaton returned for another spell and picked up the wicket of Motie who was out leg before for a duck while Boodie clobbered Beaton for 20 runs in two overs with a barrage of clean strikes, some of which travelled over the ropes.
Things would change after he was unfortunately run out attempting two runs.
Spin twins Veerasammy Permaul (3-80) and Steven Jacobs (3-60) were the two most successful bowlers for Johnson’s team.
Fudadin, who scored a brisk 115-ball 82 with three sixes and 10 fours, threw away his opportunity to reach three figures.
Johnson’s XI second innings commenced with Fudadin, who faced 115 balls and struck 10 fours and three sixes, getting off the mark with a flick for four off Raun Johnson in the second over of the innings.
Fellow opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul (02) was defensive and came off the mark after 22 balls in the over prior to the tea interval which was taken with the score 18-0 and the lead 90.
The over after tea bowled by Paul Wintz yielded the wicket of Tagenarine Chanderpaul who held out to Raj Nannan at short mid-wicket.
Skipper Leon Johnson joined Fudadin after the loss of Tagenarine Chanderpaul.
Fudadin was dropped on 24 by wicketkeeper Dexter Solomon off Keon Joseph but the two left-handers continued to carve fours around the ground.
The second innings 50 came up in the 14th over with a straight hit for four from Fudadin off Gudakesh Motie.
Nannan then landed a huge blow when he had his Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) teammate Johnson caught by Steven Sankar leaving the score 72-2. Fudadin carried on with the older Chanderpaul and reached his 50 off 84 balls minutes before stumps.
However, the left-hander threw his wicket away, challenging the long-off fielder after attempting to wade into Sankar as he did the previous over.
