Two new private non-resident companies are among the 28 business houses that have joined the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) so far this year, the Chamber’s First Vice President Vishnu Doerga has told Stabroek Business.
Fujitsu Caribbean, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the multi-billion-dollar Fujitsu Group and a part of Fujitsu North America is the leading IT Services and Solutions provider to the region’s governments and private sector organizations. The company became a member of the Chamber in June this year.
In August, the prestigious PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the largest professional services firms in the world and one of the leading auditing institutions became a member of the Chamber.
Last July, the Chamber secured another prestigious private sector member when Guyana Goldfields, which signed a Mineral Agreement with the Government of Guyana and received the Mining Licence in November 2011 to operate and build the Aurora Gold Project joined the Chamber.
Since January, three local manufacturing entities, Umami Inc, Sueria Manufacturing and Oriental General Stores Ltd, joined the Chamber. 2015 also saw the three businesses that provide services to the tourism sector, Grand Coastal Inn, North West Travel and Ashmin’s Fun Park & Resort become members of the Chamber.
This year two information technology companies, Dapper Technology and Innovative Systems joined the Chamber while the business support organization also secured the membership of two shipping companies, Power Tech Logistics and VSH United (Guyana) Inc.
From the education sector, the School of Nations Inc and the IT training institution Global Technology are now members of the Chamber.
Merchandising firms United Investment Trading, Corum Distribution, Toucan Industries Inc, Corum Distribution, Prudential Industries Technology, Central Electronics and Tony’s Auto Spares are also now on the Chamber’s membership roll.
Other new members of the Chamber are Eureka Laboratories Inc, Tactical Solutions & Consulting, GuyPride Construction & Mining, Guyana American Merchant Bank Inc and the internet shopping service provider Web Source Guyana.
Chamber President Lance Hinds told Stabroek Business that the quality of the “new recruits” to the Chamber was testimony to the interest of the business community in what the Chamber had to offer. Hinds said that apart from their interest in the work of the Chamber including its seminars and conferences, business houses were also interested in partnering with the Chamber to make important contributions in various sectors.
Hinds said Fujitsu had already brought several important partners, including Microsoft, to Guyana and PricewaterhouseCoopers was keen to provide tax seminars in Guyana.
And according to Doerga, the Chamber was continuing to interface with its members on issues relevant to the growth and development of business in Guyana. The Chamber Vice President said that during recent exchanges with more than 200 members of the Chamber concern was expressed over the high levels of crime in the country and the need to ramp up employee productivity.
