The Ministry of the Presidency’s Communications Director Mark Archer has declined his selection to serve as a member of the National Communications Network (NCN) Board of Directors, citing his demanding work commitments as the reason.
Asked during a post-Cabinet press briefing on Wednesday why he decided to resign from the Board, Archer clarified that he had declined his selection for membership and indicated in a letter to Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, who has the responsibility for public information, that he would be unable to serve due to all his responsibilities.
Archer told reporters that he thinks when a person serves on a Board, “one should be able to commit oneself totally without any reservations to serving on that Board. I felt that, with all of my duties and all the other things that I have responsibility for, serving on a Board like NCN would not be applicable at this time. So, I humbly declined. I did not resign.”
Minister of Governance Raphael Trotman said Archer’s declining the position given his workload was “commendable” and “admirable.”
The new Board, which is chaired by Bishwa Panday, is comprised of Dr. Paloma Mohamed, Margaret Lawrence, Kojo McPherson, Dhanwanti Sukhdeo, Carolyn Walcott, Imran Khan and Colin Thompson.
It is unclear if Archer has been replaced as yet or if steps are being taken to find a replacement.
