A motorcyclist crashed into a pedestrian at Ruimzigt, West Coast Demerara around 6:40 pm yesterday and they both appeared to be badly injured.
Solomon Khan, 23, of Tuschen sustained injuries to his feet and other parts of his body while the motorcyclist suffered injuries to his head, right hand and other areas.
The men who were both lying on the road and unable to move, were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
Stabroek News was unable to get the name of the motorcyclist who appeared disoriented.
Two young men who were with Khan, a fisherman, told this newspaper that they were walking on the road when the motorcycle, CF 668 slammed into Khan and “pitched him about 30 feet away.”
The driver was also pitched off the bike which ended up several feet away. He was left lying motionless and face-down on the road.
A doctor who had stopped at the scene advised residents to turn him over to ensure he was ok.
Meanwhile, residents commented on the darkness of the roadways that they have to drive on at nights and said street lights are badly needed.
They also emphasized that pedestrians should wear light coloured clothing and that vehicle owners should “dip” their lights so as to avoid blinding oncoming drivers.
