In the framework of the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Guyana, Mexico and Guyana are cooperating on a project for the preservation of its documental heritage and development of its archives, a release from the Mexican Embassy said today.
Two Mexican experts from the General National Archives advised on the digitization of historical documents to make them available to the public through an online portal. The release said that the experts also carried out a diagnosis of the collections and taught an introductory course in the field of conservation and possible actions for implementation.
Participants in the training activities had the opportunity to learn about conservation strategies and the experience of the General National Archives. The workshop focused on designing a management strategy to meet the needs of preservation and dissemination of the documental collections with materials dating from the 18th century.
The release said that the two Mexican experts met with Dr. Nicolette Henry, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, within the Ministry of Education.
