A mason, who was charged with simple larceny in August, was yesterday found not guilty of the crime.
Afiba Yankana, 26, of Hadfield Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, was accused of stealing a Samsung Galaxy S5 Smartphone, valued $130,000 and the property of Brandon McDonald, from Derrick Hope.
He had denied the allegation and was placed on $75,000 bail.
Following the trial, which was conducted at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 2, Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan ruled yesterday that the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against Yankana. As a result, she dismissed the matter.
While being escorted out of the courtroom yesterday, Yankana continuously thanked the magistrate.
The case was prosecuted by Deniro Jones and two witnesses testified during the trial.
