Colts crushed Pepsi Sonics by a 108-33 score line in a u-23 matchup when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) League Championship commenced on Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Stanton Rose top scored in the win with a game high 28 points while Amoniki John and Orin Thomas supported with 21 and 19 points respectively. Chipping in with 10 and eight points were Damani Thomas and Kevin Dey correspondingly.
For the loser, Abevia Perry battled to 18 points while Joshua Lee supported with eight points. The opening period was the closest the fixture came to a contest as Colts took a marginal 18-15 lead going into the second stanza.
Orin Thomas was the top shot in the period with eight points while five other scorers recorded at-least two points.
For Sonics, Perry netted eight points while Lee scored five points. The outcome was quickly decided in the second period as Colts outshot Sonics 26-6 to take a 44-21 lead into the half time interval.
Damani Thomas and Dey registered eight points each while Orin Thomas and Rose netted four points each. The lopsided nature of the contest continued in the third period as Colts recorded 26 points while reducing Sonics to five points.
Colts continued their dominance in the fourth quarter, netting a whopping 38 points while restricting the Mandela Avenue unit to seven points. In the second matchup within the same division, Pacesetters downed Eagles 70-58.
Action in the event is slated to continue on Wednesday at the same venue with a tripleheader. In the opening fixture at 18:00hrs, Ravens will oppose Guardians in a u-23 matchup while Eagles will battle Nets in an Open Divisional fixture from 20:00hrs.
The final match of the night will pit Ravens against Guardians from 22:00hrs in an Open Divisional showdown.
Prior to the commencement of the tourney, a march past featuring many of the competing teams occurred while opening remarks were made by the Director of Sport Christopher Jones and GABA President Junior Hercules.
