Ram & McRae has been contracted by the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest) board to hire the agency’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Ministry of Business has indicated that the agency is fully responsible for the advertising the position.
Attempts to get a comment from Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin, who is the Chairman of the GO-Invest board, were unsuccessful but his Personal Assistant Phaedra Williams indicated that Ram & McRae was contracted to recruit the new CEO.
Stabroek News asked about the process being utilized to hire the new CEO and Williams said it is the recruitment agency that is responsible for this. She had also promised that by the end of yesterday the ministry would have issued a statement on the issue but up to press time this was not forthcoming.
According to the Ram & McRae website, the firm launched its employment services in 1999. It has the “mandate of sourcing suitable jobs for individuals and suitable individuals for companies.”
The new APNU+AFC government has faced criticism for hand-picking candidates for important public positions despite pre-election assurances that these jobs would be open to all to apply for. The use of a recruitment agency would run counter to this. Reports have circulated that the government has already decided who will replace Keith Burrowes as head of the investment agency.
