The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) and the Region Three administration have met to discuss improved water services.
GWI Plans to construct a new water treatment facility at Uitvulgt, West Coast Demerara which is expected to service more than 6,440 of its customers upon completion.
According to a GWI press release, funding for the project will be facilitated via the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Caribbean Investment Facility (CIF) of the European Union (EU) and the Government of Guyana under the Water Supply and Sanitation Infras-tructure Improvement Pro-gramme (WSSIIP).
The plans for the new facility were discussed during a meeting between the Chief Executive of GWI Dr Richard Van-West Charles and Regional Chairman of Region Three, Julius Faerber. In addition, Van West-Charles said, “We are exploring a number of options including rehabilitating decommissioned well stations, with additional well stations serving the distribution system.”
This he said will allow for a significant increase in the level of service available to customers.
Incorporated under the WSSIIP, is the construction of septic tanks in communities in Region Three to aid in the improvement of the public health within the region.
The GWI Chief Executive has also said during the meeting with Faerber, his company focused on relationship building with all communities served by the utility and has pledged the availability of GWI personnel should an emergency arise regarding the water service in the region.
