The police were working up to late last evening to close investigations into the murder allegation against Marc Angoy and the case file is expected to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Chambers today for legal advice.
This was confirmed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum who also informed Stabroek News that Angoy, accompanied by detectives, visited the scene where the incident occurred during the course of yesterday and indicated the position from which he had opened fire. He is expected to be charged before the end of this week.
Angoy, a former member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), confessed to the crime on Tuesday during a lengthy interview with investigators after he turned himself over to the police with his attorney. This was hours after a wanted bulletin was issued for him.
Angoy is accused of the murder of toddler Arianne Gill, who was shot in her back on Sunday. Gill’s aunt, 12-year-old Ashley Wellington was also shot to her left foot at their Eastville Housing Scheme home when Angoy opened fire on them through a window. Wellington is currently in a stable condition in hospital.
Angoy had previously shared a three-year relationship with Shelly Norton, who is the grandmother of the dead toddler and mother of Wellington, but she ended it just over a month ago due to continuing abuse. She was believed to have been the target of Sunday’s attack.
Norton had told this newspaper that she was resting in her bedroom, while the children were in the living room watching television when the attack occurred.
“I jump up and see Ashley running with Arianne in she hand heading to the back of the house and I see Marc at the window with the gun in he hand just shooting,” the woman had recounted.
She said Angoy was unable to enter the house since it is secured with grills but he pushed his hand through a window and fired the gun. “I run in the bathroom to hide and I see Ashley foot bleeding and when I check [Arianne] I see she get shoot in she back and like she did get black out,” Norton added.
