Lloyd Sadloo and Howard Rambharose, the two men who were intercepted on Tuesday after a car chase with almost 1.5 kg of cannabis, were yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with drug possession.
Sadloo and Rambharose both pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on October 20th, at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, they had 1.452 kg of cannabis in their possession for trafficking.
No particulars of the case against the men were presented in court.
However, a source told Stabroek News that the discovery was made by ranks from the Police Narcotics Branch after they noticed the two accused, who were in a white car, acting in a suspicious manner. The source added that Sadloo, who is well-known to the police, was seated in the front passenger seat of the car when police pulled up alongside it.
However, instead of following the police’s orders to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away.
As a result, the ranks gave chase, with the assistance of the MMC security firm, which was on patrol in the area at the time.
The ranks eventually managed to intercept the car on the Eccles Public Road.
A search of the car later uncovered a black plastic bag containing three parcels containing the drug on the floor of the front passenger’s seat.
Both men are expected to make their next court appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on October 27th.
