Marc Angoy was on Thursday remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of toddler Arianne Gill, who was shot dead during an attack on the home of her grandmother on Sunday at the Eastville Housing Scheme.
Angoy, 45, of Buzz Bee Dam, Craig, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was not required to plead to the charge when he appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
The charge states that on October 18th, at Eastville Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, he murdered Gill.
The matter has been adjourned to December 28th.
Angoy, who has reportedly confessed to have been targeting his ex-lover Shelly Norton, Gill’s grandmother, in the attack, surrendered himself to the police with his attorney on Tuesday morning. Police said he confessed to the crime later that afternoon.
Gill, who was 13 months, was shot in her back, while her 12-year-old aunt, Ashley Wellington, was shot to her left foot in the attack, which saw Angoy opening fire through a window.
Angoy had previously shared a three-year relationship with Norton but she ended it just over a month ago due to continuing abuse. Angoy reportedly told police that he got very angry when he found out Norton obtained a restraining order preventing him from coming into contact with her, since he had assisted her financially and helped build a foundation for her life during their time together.
